Music Section

The Music Section held it’s first meeting 45 years ago on 18 October 1961. Mr W A Cooke, a Past President of the City Livery Club, was invited to become the first Chairman and Mr H V Eyles was elected as the Honorary Secretary. A dinner and concert was the first event which took place in the following February when the Deputy Chairman, J Diamond, received the guests. This provided an opportunity for the aims of the Music Section to be made known to all present. Since that time, the Section has continued to provide a wide choice of music and has included visits to shows, opera, ballet, music halls and places with a musical history, as well as seeing how various musical instruments were, and are now, constructed. Each Chairman’s programme reflects their own interests and skills and no two years are ever the same – so one is never bored! The Section also donates awards to three schools: The Guildhall School of Music & Drama The Royal College of Music, London Trinity College These awards provide useful help to aspiring students, as well as giving encouragement to both the institution and the winning student. Each year, The Guildhall School of Music & Drama presents a musical production, which the Section attends. There is usually a light dinner prior to the performance. If you are interested in joining please contact the Chairman or Secretary of the Section. Mr Eric Nash Tel: 0208 303 4573 Email: Maureen@masonline.fsnet.co.uk |
